How to Stop Gmail Suggesting an Email Address You Do Not Want on Windows 11

What you need: A Windows 11 computer with your Gmail inbox open in your web browser, and the first few letters that make Gmail suggest the unwanted address, such as the person's name.

Steps

  1. At the upper-left corner of Gmail, click Compose. A window for a new message opens.
  2. Click in the To box, then type the first few letters of the name or address. A list of suggested addresses appears below the box.
  3. Find the unwanted address in the list. Read the whole address, so that you hide the right one.
  4. Right-click the unwanted address by clicking it once with the right mouse button (or the right side of the touchpad). A small menu opens.
  5. Click Hide suggestion. Hiding a suggestion does not delete the person from your contacts.
  6. Press the Backspace key (at the right end of the row of numbers, often marked with a left-pointing arrow) until the letters you typed are gone. Then type the same letters again and look at the list.
  7. If you hid the wrong address, click Show hidden suggestions, which appears with the list after you type the letters again. The address you hid is suggested again, and you can start again at step 3.
  8. If you do not want to write a message now, click the X at the upper-right corner of the message window. The message window closes, and Gmail keeps the unfinished message under Drafts.

Expected result: When you type those letters in the To box, the address you hid is no longer in the list of suggestions.
