How to Attach a File to an Email in Gmail on Windows 11
What you need: A Windows 11 computer with your Gmail inbox open in your web browser, the email address of the person you are writing to, and a file saved on this computer. You also need the file's name and the name of the folder it is in, such as Documents or Pictures. If you do not remember the folder, first use How to Search for a File by Name on Windows 11.
Steps
- At the upper-left corner of Gmail, click Compose. A window for a new message opens.
- Click in the To box and type the person's email address.
- Click in the Subject box and type a few words saying what the message is about.
- Click in the large empty area below Subject and type your message.
- Click Attach at the bottom of the message window. If you are not sure which symbol it is, point to each symbol there until a name starting with Attach appears. A window opens in front of Gmail, with folders listed on the left and a File name box near the bottom.
- In the list on the left side of that window, click the folder that holds your file, such as Documents or Pictures. To open a folder inside it, double-click that folder by clicking twice quickly. Continue until you see your file.
- Click your file's name once. Its name appears in the File name box.
- Click Open at the bottom right of the window. The window closes, and your file's name appears in the message, below what you typed.
- If a bar fills up beside the file's name, wait until it is full or goes away.
- Click Send at the bottom of the message window.
Expected result: The message window closes, and Message sent appears at the lower-left corner of Gmail. Your message and its file are on their way to the person.
