How to Upload a File to a Website on a Mac
What you need: A Mac, a website open in your browser with a form that asks you to add a file, such as a document, PDF or photo, and that file saved on this Mac. You also need the file's name and the name of the folder it is in, such as Documents or Downloads. If you do not remember the folder, first use How to Search for a File by Name on a Mac.
Steps
- On the website, find the button for adding your file. It often says Choose file, Browse, Upload or Attach.
- Click it once. A window opens in front of the website, with a list of places on its left side, such as Documents and Downloads.
- In the list on the left side of that window, click the folder that holds your file. To open a folder inside it, click that folder twice quickly. Continue until you see your file.
- Look through the names for your file. Scroll down to see more files. The Mac may hide the ending of a name, such as .pdf.
- Click your file's name once. Its name is highlighted.
- Click the button at the lower-right corner of the window, which is usually blue. The window closes, and the website shows again.
- Look on the website for your file's name, near the button you clicked. If a bar fills up beside the name, wait until it is full or goes away.
- If the website shows a different file's name, click Remove or the X beside that name, then repeat steps 1 to 7 and choose the right file.
- Fill in anything else the form asks for. Then click the button at the end of the form, such as Submit, Send or Continue. The form is not finished until you click this button.
- Wait for the website to show a new message or page.
Expected result: The website shows a message or page saying your form, with your file, was sent or received.
