How to Cancel a Document Waiting to Print on a Mac

What you need: A Mac with macOS Sequoia 15 or later and the name of the document you no longer want printed.

Steps

  1. Click Finder (the blue smiling face) in the Dock, the row of app icons along the edge of the screen.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go, then Utilities. A window opens with a list of apps.
  3. Find Print Center in the window. If you do not see it, scroll down in the window.
  4. Double-click Print Center. To double-click, press the mouse or trackpad button twice quickly while the pointer is on the icon. The Print Center window opens.
  5. Click All Jobs at the top of the list on the left side of the Print Center window. The right side shows every document waiting to print. If it says No Jobs Waiting, nothing is waiting to print, and you are done.
  6. Find your document's name in the list. If it is not there, it is no longer waiting to print, and you are done. If it is there, click the X in a circle at the right end of its row, not the round arrow beside it.
  7. Watch the list. Your document disappears from it right away. If it was the only one, the list says No Jobs Waiting, and Print Center may close by itself a few seconds later. If your document is still in the list after a minute, turn the printer off, then restart the Mac. Turn the printer back on, then do steps 1 to 6 again.
  8. If the Print Center window is still open, close it with the red button in its upper-left corner. Close the Utilities window the same way.

Expected result: Your document is no longer in Print Center's list, so the printer will not print it. If the printer had already started a page, that page may still come out.
