How to Print a PDF Document on a Mac

What you need: A Mac, a saved PDF document, and the name of a printer you have used with this Mac. These steps use Preview, which is included with macOS.

Before you begin: Turn on the printer and load its paper. If you normally use a printer cable, connect it.

Steps

  1. Click Finder (the blue smiling face) in the Dock, the row of app icons along the edge of the screen.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go, then the folder containing your PDF, such as Documents or Downloads. Open a folder inside it by clicking that folder twice quickly. Continue until you see the PDF you want.
  3. Click the PDF once to select it. At the top of the screen, click File, move the pointer onto Open With to open its menu, then click Preview.
  4. Check that the correct document is visible and that Preview appears beside the Apple menu at the top of the screen.
  5. Click File, then Print.
  6. Click the name currently shown beside Printer to open the printer list, then click your printer's name and check that it is now shown beside Printer. If your printer is not listed, click Cancel and stop here.
  7. Set Copies to 1 and Pages to All. If these settings are hidden and a Show Details button is displayed, click it first.
  8. Check the preview, then click Print.

Expected result: Your printer produces one paper copy of the PDF document.
