How to Let a Website Use Your Camera and Microphone Again in Google Chrome on an Android Phone

What you need: An Android phone and the website you blocked from using your camera and microphone, such as the website you use for video calls.

Before you begin: The settings in these steps are for the website that is open in the Chrome app, the round red, yellow and green icon with a blue center. If you came here from the Steps on Screen camera and microphone test, stay on this page: it belongs to the same website as the test. Otherwise, open the website you blocked, the way you usually reach it, and leave it open. Turning on a switch below lets that website use your camera or microphone without asking you each time. Step 8 loads the page again, which clears anything you have typed on it.

Steps

  1. Look at the address bar, the wide box with rounded ends that shows the website's name. It is at the top of the screen, or at the bottom if your Chrome is set that way.
  2. Tap the small icon at the left end of the address bar, beside the website's name. It can look like two small sliders or a lock. A panel about the website opens.
  3. Tap Permissions. A list of this website's permissions opens, with a switch beside each one and the word Allowed or Not allowed under its name.
  4. Tap the switch beside Camera to turn it on, then tap the switch beside Microphone to turn it on. If Camera or Microphone is not in the list, this website is not set to block it, so leave it.
  5. Check that the word under Camera and under Microphone has changed to Allowed. If one still shows Not allowed, tap its switch again.
  6. Go back until the panel closes and you see the website's page. With buttons, tap Back, the button that points left. With swipes, swipe in from the left or right edge of the screen toward the middle and let go. You may need to do this twice.
  7. Tap More, the three dots in a column at the right of the address bar. A menu opens.
  8. In the menu, tap Refresh, the circular arrow. The website's page loads again.

Expected result: Allowed is shown under Camera and Microphone for that website, whichever are listed. After its page loads again, the website can use your camera and microphone, such as when you join your video call again.
