How to Leave Full Screen in Chrome on a Chromebook

What you need: A Chromebook with Chrome filling the whole screen, so that you cannot see Chrome's row of tabs or its address bar.

Before you begin: If the page on the screen says your Chromebook is blocked or infected, or asks you to call a phone number, do not call the number, click on the page or type anything into it. Follow these steps; step 4 closes that page.

Steps

  1. Look at the top row of keys on the keyboard and find the full screen key. Its picture is a rectangle drawn only by its four corners. It usually comes after the keys with arrows on them.
  2. Press the full screen key once and let go. If Chrome's row of tabs and its address bar appear again, go to step 4.
  3. If they did not appear, press and hold esc, the key at the left end of the top row, for about two seconds, then let go. Chrome's row of tabs and its address bar appear again.
  4. If the page said your Chromebook is blocked or infected, or asked you to call a phone number, click the X on that page's tab at the top of Chrome to close it. If Chrome asks whether to leave the page, click Leave.

Expected result: Chrome's row of tabs and its address bar are back at the top of Chrome. The page you were looking at is still open, unless it was a warning that you closed in step 4.
