How to Copy and Paste Text on a Chromebook

What you need: A Chromebook with Chrome open on a web page with the words you want to copy, and a box where you want to put them, such as a search box or a message box. The box can be on the same page or on a page in another tab.

Steps

  1. Move the pointer just in front of the first word you want to copy.
  2. Press down on the lower half of the touchpad with one finger. Keep pressing while you slide that finger to the end of the last word you want, then lift it. The words are highlighted with a colored background.
  3. Hold down Ctrl, near the lower-left corner of the keyboard. While holding it, press C once, then let go of both keys. The words are copied, and they also stay on the page.
  4. If the box is on a page in another tab, click that page's tab at the top of Chrome.
  5. Click inside the box where the words should go. A thin blinking line appears.
  6. Hold down Ctrl. While holding it, press V once, then let go of both keys. The copied words appear in the box.

Expected result: The words appear in the box and remain on the original page.
