What Is an Email Attachment?

An email attachment is a file included with an email, such as a document or photo. Saving it to your computer creates a separate copy.

What it looks like

An email card holds a page with a paperclip. An arrow labelled Save points to a folder on your computer that holds a separate copy of the page. Changing the saved copy leaves the attachment in the email as it was.

The email keeps its attachment after you save a copy. Editing that saved copy changes your copy, rather than the attachment still in the email.
