How to Stop the Taskbar from Hiding on Windows 11
What you need: A Windows 11 computer whose taskbar, the bar with Start and the time along the bottom of the screen, slides out of sight and comes back only when the pointer reaches the bottom edge of the screen.
Steps
- Move the pointer, the small arrow on the screen, to the very bottom edge of the screen and keep it there until the taskbar slides up. To move the pointer, slide your mouse, or slide one finger on the touchpad. Keep the pointer on the taskbar during the next step; if it leaves the taskbar, the taskbar slides away again.
- Move the pointer along the taskbar to a space with no icon in it, such as the space between the icons in the middle and the small icons near the time. Right-click there: press the right mouse button (or the lower-right corner of the touchpad) once. A small menu opens with Taskbar settings in it, and it stays open while you move the pointer to it. If the menu that opens does not show Taskbar settings, press the Esc key, at the top-left corner of the keyboard, to close it, then right-click a space with no icon.
- Click Taskbar settings. The Settings window opens, with Taskbar in the heading at the top.
- Scroll down to Taskbar behaviors, near the bottom of the window: move the pointer onto the right side of the window, then roll the wheel on top of the mouse toward you. On a touchpad, place two fingers on it side by side and slide them up together. If the window does not move, roll the wheel or slide your fingers the other way.
- If you do not see Automatically hide the taskbar below Taskbar behaviors, click Taskbar behaviors. More settings appear below it.
- Find Automatically hide the taskbar. The small square beside it, a check box, has a check mark while the taskbar is set to hide. Click the check box so that the check mark disappears. The taskbar slides up at the bottom of the screen and stays there. If the check box is already empty, leave it as it is, because clicking it would make the taskbar hide.
- Close Settings by clicking the X in the upper-right corner of the Settings window.
Expected result: The taskbar stays at the bottom of the screen, even when the pointer is away from it.
