How to Switch Between Open Windows on a Chromebook
What you need: A Chromebook that you have signed in to, with its built-in touchpad. These steps open Files and Chrome, then switch between their windows.
Steps
- Click Launcher, the circle at the lower-left corner of the screen. Type Files, then click Files in the results. The Files window opens.
- Click Launcher again. Type Chrome, then click Chrome in the results. A Chrome window opens in front of Files.
- Find Alt in the bottom row of the keyboard, just left of the long space bar, and Tab at the left end of the top row of letters, beside Q.
- Hold down Alt. While holding it, press Tab once. Pictures of your open windows appear in the middle of the screen, and one of them is outlined.
- Keep holding Alt. If the outline is not on the Files picture, press Tab again until it is. Then let go of Alt. The Files window comes to the front.
- To bring Chrome back to the front, do steps 4 and 5 again, stopping when the outline is on the Chrome picture.
Expected result: You brought the Files window to the front, and then the Chrome window.
