How to Stop the Dock from Hiding on a Mac
What you need: A Mac whose Dock, the row of app icons along the edge of the screen, slides out of sight and comes back only when the pointer reaches that edge of the screen, while the menu bar, the row of words across the top of the screen, stays in view.
Steps
- Click the Apple menu (the Apple logo) in the upper-left corner of the screen, then click System Settings. The System Settings window opens.
- In the list on the left side of the window, click Desktop & Dock. You may need to scroll down the list to find it: rest the pointer on the list, then roll the mouse wheel, or slide two fingers on the trackpad, until Desktop & Dock appears.
- On the right, below the heading Dock, find Automatically hide and show the Dock. The switch at the right end of that row has its round knob at the right while the Dock is set to hide. Click the switch. The knob moves to the left and the switch turns gray, and the Dock slides into view along the edge of the screen and stays there. If the knob is already at the left, leave the switch as it is, because clicking it would make the Dock hide.
- Close System Settings by clicking the red button in the upper-left corner of its window.
Expected result: The Dock stays in view along the edge of the screen, even when the pointer is away from it.
