How to See a Saved Password in Google Chrome on a Mac
What you need: A Mac with Google Chrome, the name of the website whose password you want to see, and the password you type to unlock this Mac.
Before you begin: The password will show on the screen. Make sure nobody else can see it.
Steps
- Click Finder (the blue smiling face) in the Dock, the row of app icons along the edge of the screen.
- In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go, then Applications.
- Find Google Chrome in the window and click it twice quickly to open it.
- Click the three dots standing one above the other (More) at the upper-right corner of the Chrome window. A menu opens.
- Click Passwords and autofill, then click Google Password Manager. A page opens with a list of websites under Passwords.
- Find the website's name in the list. Scroll down to see more. Click the website's name once.
- If a message appears asking for your Mac's password, type the password you use to unlock this Mac and press the Return key. If the message shows a fingerprint and no box to type in, click Use Password… and type the password, or touch the Touch ID button at the upper-right corner of the keyboard. This is the Mac's password, not your Google account password.
- Next to the password, which shows as dots, click the eye symbol (Show password). If the message from step 7 appears now, do what it asks as in step 7.
- Read the password, which now shows as letters and numbers. If the website has more than one saved password, check the username shown above it.
- Click the eye symbol again. The password shows as dots again.
Expected result: You saw the password Chrome saved for the website, and it shows as dots again.
